Michael Mark

This blog exists as a means of sharing the unfolding of my heart.

When I began, I envisioned that much of what I would offer would be directly related to my experiences reading and working with A Course in Miracles, and subsequently A Course of Love.  I found out quickly, however, that ultimately what I desired to share were pure feelings, wisps of imagination and grace, field notes from forays into the Mystery, made-up(?) encounters with Hafiz and Jesus, and related instruments of the heart.  So before too long, many of my posts became poetic in form, as this seemed to be the clearest means of offering this content, but I still try and sprinkle some prose reflections in as well.  I’ve also posted some fiction samples based on related themes.

I’ve published one collection of poetry to date, which you can read more about on the author page I’ve put together.

This blog began because I thought I had something to say, and while that was not untrue, it turned out that exchanging ideas with others was the deeper purpose.  The blog has become a place where we are saying it together, and this is a far richer experience.  I hope you find this is a good place to share what is in your heart as well, for I do believe it is this form of sharing that enlivens us, and the world as a whole.

      Thank you very much for the nomination. I really appreciate it. After some thought, I have decided to maintain an award free blog. You wrote on your blog about the way in which your writing brings you closer to God, a sentiment to which I can relate, and maybe that is one way of summing up how I feel about what sharing here means to me. The giving and receiving that have taken place here are their own reward, and that is where I would like to maintain the focus. I hope this doesn’t in any diminish your enthusiasm.     Love this Michael and am happy that you found my blog so I can now enjoy yours. I do feel we share a lot of common interests in reading this page. I recently discovered David Bohm’s writing and love his ability to write about the underlying whole and how language and time lead us to fragment that whole into static frames and parts.

      Thanks, Debra. I look forward to more exchanges as well. I enjoy Bohm’s writing, but confess to date I have only read Wholeness and the Implicate Order, which is mostly a discussion of physics. Although if I recall he can’t help but sprinkle with some other snippets of his thinking. I have often thought about reading some of his other books, but haven’t made it to those shores yet…

        David Bohm also had many conversations with Krishnamurti and some are in The Ending of Time. A title you know doubt embrace! 😉

      I acknowledge the write-up is a bit spartan in that area. Some things have changed since I wrote that a little over a year ago, not least of which would be my comfort writing a blog… Ha! So, here goes… I’m just shy of forty years old, working for a consulting engineering firm, am married with no children of my own though my wife has two. Some writers I currently enjoy reading for fun are Neal Stephenson, David Liss, Philip K. Dick, Thomas Pynchon, and Haruki Murakami. One of my all time favorite science type non-fiction books is The Rainbow and the Worm by Dr. Mae-Wan Ho, whom I had the pleasure of meeting once, along with her husband, on a brief visit to London. Mostly my external life would probably be described as “uneventful.” I enjoy writing, sitting on the back deck in the sun, occasionally programming Visual Basic applications to streamline processes at work, etc. I dislike most forms of government paperwork and find things like registering cars and renewing credentials to be something of a nuisance. Not a day goes by without my thinking about accepting Love as fully into my daily modes of being as possible, though success obviously varies… I don’t have any concrete plans for my life although I have been working on stringing together enough words to claim I have drafted a novel… 🙂

    Wonderful Michael — glad to meet you here in WordPressland. The Course in Miracles opened many doors and windows for me 30 + years ago. It also validated my own connecting the threads of various theologies, particularly Christianity and Hinduism. My travels have now brought me to a Muslim country (Morocco) where I am gaining some insights into this orientation toward the One. Yes, the Course in Miracles has quite a bit of range to it if one is willing to look past the particular vocabulary to the essence of what is offered.         Thank you Michael — ACIM gave me a vocabulary to express my joint understanding and love for Hinduism and mystical Christianity. I felt that the language of the Course gave voice to that particular blend of religions that had come to resonate within me as my “truth” at that time.
        I knew barely anything about Morocco or the Arab world when I arrived here in April. Part of how I hold myself is a “bridge” between the western and Arab cultures. Bridges go both ways, so I am hoping that my western readers will come to know the Arab world better through my writing and that my Moroccan neighbors and friends will get to know the better parts of their western counterparts. Being in a Muslim country during Ramadan, for instance, is giving me a lot of material for at least one future post. Glad you are following; we’ll learn together ♥

      What flower or plant would best represent you?

      Would that I knew a little more about the kingdoms of growing things… 🙂 I am thinking some type of evergreen, like a Douglas Fir.

      What animal or insect would best represent your loved one?

      This isn’t a fair question, Marlyn… 🙂 I’m going with the bee… Bees are love. They nurture so much life around them…

      Which boardgame do you think is a facsimile of the game of life?

      I think they all have some bit of life written into them or they wouldn’t have any staying power whatsoever, but I’m thinking of Operation. The more you relax and just play without worry of the outcome, the steadier the hand… And it’s punctuated by loud buzzing noises!

      When do you prefer to meditate? Sunset or sunrise?

      I think sunset. There is a softness in the knowledge of night’s pending arrival that makes relaxation a little easier…

      If you were given a chance to choose the kind of talent you’d like to have, what would it be?

      Would you pick anything other than what you’ve been given? I think ultimately we realize what we’ve been given is somehow perfect for each of us, so I wouldn’t change a thing…
